Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial management of the hospital by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing daily journals and weekly reports, ensuring compliance with IFRS accounting standards and local regulatory requirements. Assisting with budgeting input, payroll and audit processes. The Accountant contributes to the effective stewardship of hospital resources and supports decision-making through timely and reliable financial information.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  1. Maintain general ledger accounts, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  2. Daily posting of Inpatient payments from Insurance and corporate customers.
  3. Contact major insurance providers to ensure payments are settled.
  4. Efficiently communicate insurance decisions that might require resubmission of claims within time limits to the Patient Services Department.
  5. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  6. Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and forecasts.
  7. Process accounts payable and receivables in compliance with hospital policies.
  8. Oversee payroll processing and statutory deductions.
  9. Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax laws, and hospital policies.
  10. Assist with internal and external audits, providing required documentation.
  11. Support financial analysis for management decision-making.
  12. Ensure patients’ financial records are properly filed and retrievable on request.
  13. Maintain financial records for clients by analyzing source documents and general ledger accounts and entering data into accounting system.
  14. Assist in annual stock count and inventory verification.
  15. Any other related duties and specific work projects which may be assigned from time to time.

Academic Qualifications & Experience required for job:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • ACCA, CPA, or equivalent certification (or progress toward qualification preferred)
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in accounting required
  • Adept at using Microsoft Excel (familiar with VLookup and pivot tables), Word and Power Point
  • Experience in healthcare would be an asset
  • Be knowledgeable of and committed to the philosophy, principles and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel essential).

  • Good written and verbal communication skills including a professional and tactful approach
  • Multi-tasking, detail oriented and ability to work as part of a team and independently.
