PRACTICAL NURSES
Job Summary
The Practical Nurse at Andrews Memorial Hospital participates in providing a safe, efficient, and compassionate environment through basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or other licensed healthcare professional. The Practical Nurse supports the nursing team by assisting patients with activities of daily living, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring a clean and comfortable environment, contributing to high-quality healthcare and positive patient outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Patient Care: a. Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, feeding, and ambulation. b. Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure) and report abnormalities to the supervising RN/RM/EAN. c. Measure and document intake and output, including food and fluid intake. d. Assist with bed-making, positioning, and patient transfers. 2. Clinical Support: a. Assist in preparing patients for examinations and minor procedures. b. Provide simple wound care such as cleaning and applying non-sterile dressings as directed. c. Ensure patient comfort and promptly respond to call bells or requests for assistance. d. Support infection control practices, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment as needed. 3. Documentation and Communication: a. Accurately document care provided, observations, and patient concerns. b. Report any changes in patient condition, behavior, or safety risks to the supervising RN/RM/EAN. c. Maintain open communication with healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care. 4. Safety and Environment: a. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. b. Adhere to hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and safety guidelines. c. Assist in the proper storage and maintenance of supplies and equipment. 5. Patient Advocacy and Compassionate Care: a. Treat all patients and families with respect, dignity, and compassion in alignment with the hospital’s mission. b. Support patient comfort by anticipating and addressing non-clinical needs. Performs other related duties as assigned. |
Academic qualifications and experience required for job:
•Certificate/Diploma in Practical Nursing or other related qualifications from an accredited institution.
• At least six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.
• Able to use a computer.
• Be knowledgeable of and committed to the philosophy, principles and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
